Relatively low.  A blind man's dog is hit by a car, but it is off-camera.  The whipping and mistreatment of the horses is also minimally portrayed.

Yes, absolutely.

The dog and cat scenes are relatively early in the movie, while the horse scenes come close to the end.

Should not be too upsetting to anyone other than perhaps very small children.
